How to Delete Windows Temporary Files?
To free up any storage space in Windows, one very simple way is to uninstall temporary files, often referred to as temp files. Temp files are just what they probably sound like: files that only momentarily needed to live during use of your operating system, but are now just wasting room.
The majority of temporary files are stored in the Windows Temp folder, whose location varies from machine to computer, and even from user to user. Here are the steps for that.
Cleaning out the Temp folder manually in Windows generally takes less than a minute, but depending on how big the temporary file set is, it could take longer.
How to Uninstall Windows Temporary Files
To remove your temporary Windows files, follow these simple steps:
*Windows 10: Click the Cortana search box just to the right of the taskbar's Start button.
*Windows 8.1: Right-click the Start button or tap-and-hold it, then select Run.
*Windows 8.0: From the Apps screen, the simplest way to access Run is
*In previous versions of Windows, press Start to open the search box or search for Run.
*Entering the WIN+R keyboard shortcut is another way to open the Run dialog box.
*Enter exactly the following command in the Run window or the search box:
%temp%
*This command, which is theoretically one of several Windows environment variables, opens a folder designated by Windows as your Temp folder, most likely C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp.
*Pick all of the files and directories you want to remove from the Temp folder. Choose all of them, unless you have a reason to do otherwise.
*Using the Delete key on your keyboard or the Delete button from the Home menu to delete all the temporary files and folders you have picked.
*Choose Skip if during the temporary file deletion process you are met with a File in Use or Folder in Use alert.
*This is Windows telling you that the file or folder you're trying to uninstall is locked by a program, or maybe even Windows itself, and is still in use. Skipping these enables the removal to proceed with the remaining details.
*Wait while you uninstall all the temp files, which might take up to a few seconds if you just have a few files in this folder, and up to a few minutes if you have a lot of them and they're big.
*When the process is complete, you won't be prompted. Alternatively, the progress metric would simply vanish and you'll see your empty, or nearly empty, temp folder on the computer. To close this window, feel free to.
*If you happen to delete so much information that it can not be submitted to the Recycling Bin, you will be told that it will be permanently deleted.
*Finally, on your screen, find the recycle bin, right-click or tap-and-hold the button, then select Empty Recycle Bin.
*Confirm that you want to uninstall things that will erase temporary files from your computer permanently.
*Now, in the short term, you have an empty section with temporary files.
